Spring is coming
March 10, 2016
Spring is coming! Even if it’s snowing where you are, in my new book, Spring According to Humphrey, flowers are blooming and birds are building nests. There are also tiny specks called tadpoles that are supposed to turn into frogs. How will my pal, Og, feel about that? My classmates are making family trees – but what should I write on mine? These are troubling thoughts – but maybe, just maybe, all of the friends I’ve made since coming to Longfellow School are really the BEST-BEST-BEST family I could ask for!

It’s GREAT-GREAT-GREAT fun to read wonderful stories, especially the dragon book Mrs. Brisbane read to us. So when my friends in Room 26 were assigned to write their own stories, I decided to take pencil in paw and write one, too. I was unsqueakably surprised that it wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be! My imagination worked fine when I thought I saw a ghost at Felipe’s house, but it took me awhile to work out a story. You can read about all the fun my friends and I had in a brand new book, Imagination According to Humphrey, which will be published February 5!

It’s been awhile since we’ve been in touch, but I haven’t just been spinning on my wheel all this time! The life of a classroom hamster is never dull. I’ve been unsqueakably busy helping my friends in Room 26 with their problems, helping Mrs. Brisbane in the classroom, chatting with Og the frog and going home with a different student each weekend.
Of course, I’ve had BIG-BIG-BIG adventures outside of my cage, thanks to my lock-that-doesn’t-lock. The good news is, I’ve also been writing my thoughts in my little secret notebook, so there will be more Humphrey books to read. Yippee!
