I have a GREAT-GREAT-GREAT time writing in my little notebook, but when it comes to my books, I couldn't write them without the help of my friend, Betty G. Birney. You can find out more about her here!
I am so lucky that I get to spend a lot of my time looking at the world through the eyes of curious classroom hamster named Humphrey.
I first had an idea about a classroom pet many years ago when I was visiting my son’s science classroom where the walls were lined with cages and tanks for all kinds of animals. They even had a boa constrictor! I remember thinking, “I wonder what these animals see and hear in the classroom?” I thought it would be fun to write a book looking at a classroom through the eyes of an animal. That’s how Humphrey was born.
The best part of being a writer is the chance to see the world through other people’s eyes, or, in Humphrey’s case, through the eyes of a hamster! We may be different species, but Humphrey is quite a bit like me: easily excitable, longing to be helpful, (though I’m not nearly as successful at it as he is), and VERY-VERY-VERY curious! When I write the stories from Humphrey’s point-of-view, I really do feel like a hamster. Believe me it’s a lot of fun!
I hope you have fun here on Humphrey’s website, where you can get the latest Humphrey news. Come back often!
